All I can say is it's a good thing my niece is level headed and well grounded. She's become the latest in sensations on the web and on the news circuits. She had a baby, a very welcome family addition. She has been inundated with the usual hullabaloo after one story while she was in the hospital.
After seeing the comments on the story posted to Facebook, I figured that might happen. Hopefully, the rest of the family won't add fuel to the negativity that some of the comments on the reports inevitably bring out.
It used to be that such things were "fifteen minutes of fame." Now, it's more like fifteen seconds. Though with her being a runner, it might last "fifteen minutes." Both my niece and nephew are very loving, caring people. And they'll ride this one out and get on with their lives.
And, of course, she'll be at Grandma's doing her best, as she always does.

Update on status?
Well, so much for my writing habits. Been working on the financials, which is pretty much taken care of. Have been revising and such. Hmm. One of these days, I will get me a laptop. Still, the travel book, a private printing, will be here in July.
Mom is in radiation therapy right now. She'll be doing this for the next six weeks or so. No Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. It's been a hectic two weeks. Father came home and is doing so much better since. I've had to go fix his computer, so he may just send me a post or two. He's working on the Dragon software I got for him, courtesy of the 2012 NaNoWriMo.
Then, my niece had a baby yesterday. Shock of the month. She and her family are excited. Yes, there is a lot to be thankful for this day. I, myself, have been down in the...hmm. Not quite right, but I'm not feeling my usual optimistic self. More like, my perfectionistic tendency is trying to rear its' ugly head. Yep, that's it.
Well, I thought I'd post a quick update and say thanks for the support. I'm still getting readers even though I haven't posted in quite a while. Miigwitch.

getting things right
The past couple months have been a bit of a twister for the family. Father has been going in and out of the hospital. This last time, they've kept as they've finally discovered what was wrong. He still has to have one more surgery in July. I need to remind him that he'll probably live to be 100. Still, that's a relief, knowing what is wrong. Scary, those trips to the ER were.
Then mom had a bout with cancer and now only has to do 6 weeks of radiation therapy. And nephew has been in pain for months with trips to the ER with one on his birthday. He is doing fine now that "I'm staying in til they fix me." He is a giant, over 6 feet and has not really spent time in the hospital before. IV's the whole time. He's going to eat lots when he gets home.
And then, I attended a couple meetings with the elders and am going full steam ahead with one project for them. I have finished my website and checking that all regulations and whatnot have been complied with. Means talking with lawyers. My business plan is longer than some of my stories. Hahaha. Not to mention the marketing plan, it, too, is longer than my short stories. They're coming to take me away hahaheehee. Oh, I thought dealing with the gremlins, brownies and black holes was time consuming. Sure am glad I decided to make sure half of my stories were ready to publish before I actually started all this part.
And, I see that I still haven't learned to hit the publish button when scheduling posts. A few things are different about Google, too, I see. Man, oh, man, leave for a month or two and one has to catch up.
Wawashkeshii, niiwin, mawadisiwag. Three deer are visiting. They just left to go up to the village center. That's not proper sentencing though. I will be writing a few things more and more in Anishinabemowin along with translations if possible. Some concepts are hard to describe in English.
Trying to get used to it, as I plan to write a story completely in our language one of these days. Well, onward to the day's planned activities. Giigawabimin, see you.

Great good News
Aaniin. Greetings. First of all, thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts. Sis took Mom for her followup. Mom doesn't have to go back for follow ups, though she does have to take pills for two years. ChiiMiigwitch. The cancer is not there due to the skill of the doctor. Thanks once again.
Second, I was in a bit of a quandary yesterday. Mom and Sis went to Dtown, I was taking our cousin to her doctor's appointment, #3 Sis took Father on his monthly trip to Turtle Lake as he is finally feeling better. #4 Sis was already in Dtown. I waited for a phone call about the time I thought Mom should be done. I went so far as to check my phone for a missed call or a text. Nothing. Finally, broke down and called #3 to find out. Wonder of wonders! She sounded on the verge of panic.
"Where were you? I tried to call."
"I thought my phone rang. Checked and there was nothing."
"Well, I called. We got lost."
"Where are you now?"
"Saginaw."
"Saginaw?"
"Well, I think we just passed Twig."
Now, mind you, I am famous in the family and environs for getting lost in parking lots. #3 and I arrived home within half hour of each other. The full story came out.
Mom's first appointment was in the morning. They arrived without any trouble. Then, discovered they had to wait two hours for a second appointment. So, they left and went to eat and traipse about town. Met up with #4 Sis while checking in with #1 Granddaughter. Sort of a mini-family reunion.
Then, Mom and Sis went back to the clinic complex and parked. They got the good news and proceeded to exit the building. Couldn't find the parking lot. Asked people, checked out all hallways marking "Parking Lot" and went through a number of skywalks. Sis was on the verge of crying. Finally, they asked a nurse who helped them find their car. Many thanks to the nurse who took it upon herself to help, even though she was getting ready to clock out. After two hours, they arrived at the car, settled in for the ride home. I told her I'd done that to our cousin once when she had to go there and I ended up having to get a wheel chair for her while I found the right elevator. (Mom and Cousin are the same age.)
Further questioning revealed that she'd parked in a lot I'd never heard of. I think I had seen one in the general area she described. She didn't even have her parking ticket with her. It was on the seat. It's an "ancient" car, no panic button on the keys. First time any one in the family lost the parking lot.

Reviewing, editing, etc.
Normally, this post would be on my writerly journal. Only, I was looking over the blog posts I had turned into a book from this very blog not too long ago when I was unsure if I would be able to keep the blog. Long story there. At any rate, I had rambled about the little people and then mentioned the ones who eat socks in the washer. Well, this brought up the memory of the time my sis and I lived in the same house. Laundry day. Sis was transferring the clothes to the dryer.
"Hey. You know, there really are creatures who eat socks. Look at this."
I ran to the laundry room to see her holding up a sock that was definitely chewed upon. I shook my head with a raised eyebrow. (This is the sister who can't resist the Gullible sign on my forehead.)
"Really. I just took it out of there."
I kept one eye upon her countenance as I took the few steps over to the washer. One never knows with her. She can keep a serious look upon her face until the Gullible sign has lit up and she knows she has pulled the latest and greatest of her career. I look into the washer, not knowing what to expect.
It was empty.
I wonder. She is still examining the sock. I ponder.
"I had to pull this out of there. Whatever it was, it had a hold on the sock."
My eyebrow raised again. Does she not remember that I've watched her as she's planned things for others who also have Gullible written on their foreheads?
I reach into the machine to check it out. I had to. I could see nothing there. I take the agitator off to look. Yes, there are bits of thread hanging. I finally believe her. She still has the puzzled look on her face.
And thus the reason for my post. I think about that ever so often. Was that a shining example of her cleverness and she giggles to herself when she thinks upon it? Or is there really a creature who eats socks?
